Radio Speedwagon Sets Sail

Yo ho ho and all that. I have made a seafaring sonic salute on Diesel U Music radio that is to be broadcast this evening.
In it you will hear interviews with sailors old, new and bonkers. I will go on about some of my nautical adventures as well as play some aces tracks that you can check in my next post.
Here are some links to the things I chat about on the Radio Speedwagon show:
Mike Perham - Youngest Round the World Sailor
Hunters Boat Hire The place I hire my holiday boats from
MV Harmattan Details on the ship Vernon Cumpstey sailed in the 60's
Theta Club The place that started it all

Remember to be port out and starboard home...keep it POSH

Animal Collective

I saw the Animal Collective at Brixton Accedemy last week.
Flat.
Everything about their show (apart from the lights) was rather dull. I was expecting a more dynamic version of the tracks on their albums...shame really.
Probably better to see them at a smaller venue - but the place was 2/3 full and I saw a lot of people leaving early. Not only that, I was the only bloke there not wearing a lumberjack shirt (buttoned up to the neck naturally)
Here's a live version of My Girls - recorded at a better gig than the one I went to

Wooden Shjips Set Sail

My good friend Brookheimer sorted out some tickets for Wooden Shjips a The Borderline last week. Thanks Brooksy.
Man, were they good. If you can imagine Hugh Laurie on bass, Rasputin on guitar and Noddy Holder on keys you are nearly there. Amazing sonics that just tranced along with little and then big flourishes. this band played like we weren't there. Not in a self centered way - morelike an unposturing 'deep in the sound' kind of way...Brilliant!
I hope all those at The Green Man festival last weekend saw them too
Enjoy this track - go get your timbers shivered by the Wooden Shjips.

Mondo Disco

Hi
My blogging is a bit like buses...
I am playing some sweaty disco music - or is that music to sweat to in a disco? At this great club. Anyhow, it's a pub club with aces selections from the sonic wizzard Ray Mang, the Peter Pan of Disco Steve Lee, the best beard behind the wheels Dave Bumpstead and me!

I will post up a mix of the sort of gubbins I will be playing this saturday - why not swing by?

The Dog, the Dog, He's at It Again – Caravan
The Four Horsemen – Aphrodite’s Child
The Kettle – Colloseum

String

What a few months i have had! My baby daughter is growing up so fast and my Dad has had a very near death experience. From no cares in the world to being the don dada for two families. The string we dangle from is ever so thin!

Talking of which, check out the chart below. Extra special notice to the LCD track mixed by the twisted fiddler John Cale...every time it is aired i have a multitude of enquiries - stunning. Also tipped is the Pharaohe Monche single along with Herve's mix of the ever boyant Roisin Murphy, not forgetting the mega Rumble Strips (my tip for this year's Fratellis medal)...and finally Battles, who were amazing at the Scala this month.

BLACK STROBE - I’M A MAN - PLAYLOUDER
LCD SOUNDSYSTEM - ALL MY FRIENDS – JOHN CALE MIX - DFA
THE LITTLE ONES - LOVERS WHO UNCOVER - EMI
PHAROAHE MONCH - BODY BABY REMIXES - ISLAND
BONDO DE ROLO - OFFICE BOY - DOMINO
FIREWORKS NIGHT - WHEN WE FELL THROUGH THE ICE - KARTEL
M.I.A. - BOYZ - XL
GOSSIP - LISTEN UP REMIXES - BACK YARD
AIR - MER DU JAPON - VIRGIN
ROISIN MURPHY - OVERPOWERED – HERVE MIX - EMI
MUSCLES - ONE INCH BADGE PIN - BANG GANG
LAURIE ANDERSON - OH SUPERMAN - WARNER
KOMPUTER - SYNTHETIK LP - MUTE
THE DYNAMICS - SEVEN NATION ARMY - BIG SINGLE
BATTLES - ATLAS - WARP
TWO LONE SWORDSMEN - WRONG MEETING LP - ROTTERS GOLF CLUB
ROXY MUSIC - VIRGINIA PLANE – HEADMAN MIX - WHITE
THE RUMBLE STRIPS - MOTORCYCLE - WHITE

You can catch me playing these and others at Mish Mash next weekend and few other cheeky gigs here and there. More of that later!

twerk it!
